HitachiNEXT 2018 – Cisco Breakout session

All Flash is mainstream. NVMe-oF is at the edge. Many time I am being asked what these unprecedented changes mean for storage networks. This was my agenda for the Cisco Breakout session at HitachiNext 2018.  Some customer anecdotes, reported challenges and what was suggested to these customers. Overall, 3 key takeaways:

#1Host-edge links should have same or higher capacity than the storage-edge links. Don’t let the over-subscription at host-edge slow down your fabric.
#2Get deep visibility into  distributed block storage workloads to ensure performance and being more proactive. Without that, you are flying blind.
#3Be aware and ready for the NVMe-oF wave. Not that you need to do something drastically different, but keep your options open and look out for guidance which is being developed.
